Modern centerpiece parietal engravings

Black clay modern centerpiece, glazes and engravings

The modern centerpiece made of black refractory clay was entirely moulded by hand and decorated with parietal engravings in modern style and glazes, a real tribute to primitive art. The artifact is a non-reproducible, unique piece and recalls the modern style of the best modern Italian ceramics. Each phase of the making of the centerpiece, from moulding to decoration, follows the best artisanal tradition of Italian ceramic making.

The clay making to produce the ceramic centerpiece was artisanal and it followed the best moulding techniques by the Master Giuseppe Liberati. For the occasion, the Master decided to use a particular black clay, that is much harder to be shaped compared to the others. The clay used is part of the semi-refractory clays with high resistance and it is also suitable for large ceramic sculptures. The decorative motif of the centerpiece is inspired by parietal art, which recalls the signs and drawings made by the Sapiens man in the caves and walls during the prehistoric period; at the time, this type of paintings was often embossed, engraved or carved on the stone.

After finishing the decoration, the centerpiece has been decorated in the inner part and on the edges using glazes in the shades of red and metallic black. The color perfectly highlights the engravings, enhancing every detail, while the part with the rock engravings has been left natural, to emphasise the particular black color of the clay. The engraving decoration technique is one of the most ancient tecniques used to decorate ceramics. There are several engraving methods that can be performed using different tools, for example when the object is still in a plastic state, leather-hardness or already dried.

The semi-refractory clay centerpiece is hand-moulded by the ceramist master Giuseppe Liberati. This artwork represents an unique piece of Italian contemporary ceramics. When purchasing the object, a Guarantee Certificate will be attached to prove the craftsmanship of the work.
